I am a multidisciplinary artist based in London.
I explore extractivism, posthumanism, material memory, and time, often in relation to technology. My practice is research-led and spans image, sculptural installation and text. Previously trained as an architect and influenced by new materialist philosophy, I aim to move beyond human-centred narratives and to work in response to the inherited view of the Earth as passive matter.

My main interest lies in natural resources and the stories they can tell. The materials I work with—charcoal, coal, metal, ice, and water—carry the memory of ecological and socio-political transformation. They hold histories that extend far beyond human timescales. I am interested in how these materials act as records of geological processes and human impact, while simultaneously giving form to the technologies that drive ongoing planetary change.

This work emerges from my interest in extractivism and the material politics of natural resources. Motivated by research into polar ice drilling, it reflects on how fresh glacier water and natural cold are becoming some of the most precious resources of the near future and a ground zero for climate change.

Inspired by my visit to the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, the piece draws on real scientific and environmental processes. It explores themes of memory, fluidity, and fragility, highlighting the slow yet irreversible release of frozen archives of Earth’s climate data and the loss of fragments of glacier time: trapped air, fresh water, and microorganisms dating back up to 800,000 years.

The melting of ancient ice is a process that contributes to rising ocean levels, alters marine ecosystems by increasing water salinity in some areas and diluting it in others, and releases trapped greenhouse gases and ancient carbon dioxide. These processes accelerate global warming and disrupt the delicate balance of Earth’s climate.

Our systems are intended to work seamlessly. We think of them as ordinary and boring, if notice them at all, until they fail and instantly disrupt our daily lives. When infrastructure fatigues, bends and breaks, it opens a space of raw uncertainty. In that failure, I see not only clash between human intention and natural force, but also a will to resist, a refusal of its physical body to remain within the system and conform to someone else’s ambition.Ref.: R. The piece explores the fears and myths surrounding human and technological impact on environmental changes.

It focuses on the melting of the northern ice sheets, which act as natural records of ancient life. These ice sheets store microorganisms that come back to life as they melt, highlighting the effects of climate change.

This work blurs the boundary between animate and inanimate, exploring displacement and migration. It reflects how every process consists of smaller agents, each following their own path, yet contributing to a greater whole.

The sculptural component features bituminous coal eggs in an aluminium wire nest, speculating on a post-human life form that merges technology with nature and communicates with viewers through a language beyond human comprehension.
To the memory of David Lynch.

2024
A3 (42x29.7cm)Photo-etching on Somerset White 300 gsm paper
Edition of 10

Everything new is made from preexisting components. This work merges elements from the Carboniferous period with modern technologies. The original image was created by scanning bituminous coal and overlaying it on a chemigram developed with a plant-based solution.

The print you see is the result of almost alchemical processes that involved boiling the developer, etching a zinc plate in acid, soaking the paper in water, and, of course, cooking coal rocks from what was once a swamp.

	Dice

2024
5x5x250cmBituminous coal, aluminium foil

The dice trace back to an ancient game called Knucklebones, where goat or sheep bones were weighted with lead and tossed onto the ground. In the 1st century in the Roman Empire, these bones began to take on a cubic shape. However, in many parts of the world, people still use animal bones to play this game.

Since the bones of vertebrates do not decompose but instead become embedded in the Earth’s crust, remains of ancient creatures are often uncovered during mining, making some of the most fascinating discoveries a by-product of resource extraction. Archaeologists, paleontologists, and miners all share an interest in digging, though for different reasons.
The work explores what we treasure, along with themes of time, chance, and the game of life we all play—one with a definite outcome.

Digital work

Technologies manipulate our emotions and separate us from our consciousness and the material world. To counter this, I created this trance-inducing machine that can be used to descend into the depths of consciousness to find and restore these connections. I also call it a ‘carbon-based’ reconnection practice.
